Question 1

Are contracts on Quay legally enforceable in EU and UK jurisdictions?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Contracts signed on Quay use qualified electronic signatures that meet eIDAS Regulation (EU 910/2014) standards across the EU and the UK Electronic Communications Act 2000 in the United Kingdom. Both grant electronic signatures the same legal weight as wet-ink signatures. For commodity-specific arbitration — GAFTA, FOSFA, and LME clauses — Quay preserves the original arbitration framework defined in your template. Hash-stamping, timestamping, and IP capture form the audit chain that satisfies evidentiary requirements in both jurisdictions.

Question 2

How does Quay differ from CTRM systems like Eka, Allegro, or ComFin?

Accepted Answer

CTRMs manage your full trade lifecycle — position, P&L, risk, logistics, settlement. Quay is the contract layer specifically. We sit alongside your CTRM, not in place of it. You keep your ETRM/CTRM for trade book and risk; Quay handles the bilateral contract, scoped sharing, signing, document flow, and audit trail. Most desks running Eka or Allegro still draft and counter-sign in Word and email — that’s the gap Quay closes. We export to your CTRM via API or one-click data pack on contract close.

Question 3

Can our legal team review and customise templates?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Standard GAFTA, FOSFA, LME, and Incoterms 2020 templates ship pre-configured. Your legal team can clone any template, edit clauses, add house wording, and lock the result for desk use. Custom templates go through the same versioning, hash-stamping, and audit-trail logic as standard ones. We can also import your existing PDF templates during pilot setup — your legal team flags the dynamic fields, we wire them up.

Question 4

What happens if a counterparty refuses to use the platform?

Accepted Answer

The scoped link is designed to remove that objection — no login, no account, no platform handshake. Counterparties review and sign through a single URL with no software to install. If a counterparty still refuses, you can export the contract PDF, sign via your existing process (DocuSign, wet ink, scanned counterparts), and upload the countersigned scan to the deal. The audit trail still captures every action on your side. In practice, after the first scoped-link experience, counterparties prefer it to email PDF cycles.

Question 5

How do you handle data residency for non-EU desks?

Accepted Answer

Default infrastructure is Frankfurt (AWS eu-central-1) for GDPR-aligned workloads. For desks based in MENA, Asia-Pacific, or the Americas, we offer regional data residency on enterprise plans — UAE, Singapore, and US-East currently available, with data isolation at the database and storage layer. All regions maintain the same audit, security, and feature parity. Cross-border deal flows are handled via region-of-record rules agreed at desk onboarding.

Question 6

Is there an offline mode for vessel ops?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Vessel operations crews — supercargoes, surveyors, port agents — often work with intermittent connectivity. The mobile view caches active deal documents, checklists, and forms locally. Field updates, document uploads, and timestamped notes queue offline and sync on next connection. Conflict resolution is last-write-wins with full audit history of every change. Works on iOS and Android.
